Simple Techniques And Tips For Creating Hand Laid Tracks

By Matthew Cooper

Doing the layout for model tracks may be so much easy, however, people can still turn their attention into these despite of its simplicity. Some people are already considering this as a hobby. The work may require financial consideration this is because the materials to be used may be expensive. To learn even the basic moves of trains is very important to this since it can affect the enthusiasm and the interests of people wanting it.

Hand laying track may seem to scare a lot of people but this should not be causing them to feel any fear. This is because there are a lot of wonderful types of casting that are available, and thus, making the construction of critical elements become very simple. Follow these following tips and techniques which may be applied for the simple construction of the hand laid tracks.

Creating photo prototypes first is mostly recommended so that you can be able to easily compare and match the textures and colors of your desired model track. Always be observant when it comes to the proper amounts of variation for the texture and color. You should also be observant on the splits and the checks of individual ties. Even though individual ties are made with different variations for the color and shading, consistency of track coloring will still be there.

Having the internet connection is also a big help since you can be able to browse and search some images that can be useful for providing you additional ideas. When you search, you can learn as well some important lessons, including how an oil dripping can stain color ballast and ties and the weeds that sprouted on checks. Noticing as well the plastic bottles, powder fills, fine sands, or other trashes.

There are some people who would prefer placing many characters into ties. You can add texture to these ties made from a basswood and are cut into strips. A very smooth basswood can be made rough textured surface by the use of razor saw blades. If you want that the ties will look older, decrepit, or aged, these must be beaten up. A caricature effect is also preferred by many creators and this can be created by the use of various tools that would include modeling knives or dental picks.

After texturing and gluing it to the roadbed, begin on the process of coloring using a wash coat. Randomly brush it to the ties. For getting the variation of color, brush it out on bigger sections before you are going to reload it with much more stain. A Golden Oak Minwax stain is recommended for use when staining since it can give a color which is yellowish brown and may be used as a simple base coat.

Applying a second coating. The recommended type of paint for this is Floquil Grimy Black paint. Shake the bottle first before opening and using to distribute properly the pigment. Scrap materials may be experimented in order to achieve more satisfying results. Craft water based paints are used as alternatives but may be more expensive.

You may want to mix all the paints and the stains together and do not worry on how these things would react. In fact, the most interesting effects would often happen when you least expect them to happen. Thus, an experimentation of main ingredients is the key for a successful project.
