Ladders are used to climb down and up a set of steps in inclined or vertical position that has two types of classifications. The first is rigid that can be leaned to walls and other vertical surfaces or itself and are either permanently fixed into an equipment, building, or structure. Second is flexible which is made from ropes or aluminum which is usually hanged on top.

There are those that are also made for particular uses although using them for other purposes is doable but not recommended. This ladder is usually made from aluminum, wood and fiberglass, and has two types also namely straight and tripod. The former has two types too which is known as pointed top and open top and both have flared base. While the latter is more popular and has three legs where the third one is the tripod and designed to give support in several conditions.

The following are some tips in knowing when to use these ladders like for harvesting operations and pruning only. Avoid using them in firm ground because it may tip or collapse anytime, let just one person climb it and securely tie it before climbing. If you feel dizzy or tired, even just a bit, then do not step on it as you might lose balance.

Shoes recommended for climbing them are the clean ones that has slip resistance and avoid leather soles due to its unsafeness. Select one which suits the job, never use on strong winds or storms and inspect it first prior to using it and make sure the condition is good. Slowly climb while moving too much is avoided, never move it while on it and if possible, wear tool or safety belt.

Common accidents when ladders are used are falls and injuries with a few factors contributing in these like its age, footwear, sudden movement, its bad condition and lack of attention. Accidents may happen even while just carrying, moving and lifting them. So make sure workers are properly trained.
