Haunted New York Is Interesting

By Christa Jarvis

There are many people within Manhattan who truly believe in ghosts and demons. Each of these individuals really think that there is a haunted New York which is really interesting. For years tenants at places such as The Morris-Jumel Mansion, The Dakota, The Campbell Apartment, The House of Death, 12 Gay Street, St. Mark's Church In-The-Bowery, The Merchant House and The Manhattan Well have been frightened by spirits.

Individuals are never prepared for what they will experience at The Morris-Jumel Mansion. Sometimes everyone will go in with a closed mind since many people do not believe in spirits. They quickly change their opinion once they meet the ghostly figure of a teacher who once resided in this place. She really does not like noise and will discipline any obedient individual. Along with this old spinster people will have the chance to hear a talking clock which hangs on the wall. Also, many of the historic pictures come to life without warning.

The Dakota has a strange background since this historic landmark was used in a popular horror movie back in the 60's. Roman Polanski was smart enough to showcase this building within his classic film "Rosemary's Baby." A little girl still walks around the hallways of this location and she is very friendly. Anyone can tell that this ghost is from another century since her clothes are quite old fashioned. John Lennon was murdered at this same place decades ago and his spirit has never left.

Residents at 57th street all know the story about the mean Frenchman named Brazelle. He had stole another man's wife and then murdered the gentleman in cold blood. His first victim was named Albert Champion and he was a well liked fellow. Later on Brazelle killed his wife in a fit of rage.

After he had committed this horrible crime the woman's bodyguards threw him out the window. People have seen his spirit lurking around the building throughout the night. Residents can also hear violent arguments taking place within the penthouse apartment.

Many individuals are really frightened whenever they hear about The House of Death. Mark Twain once called this place his home years ago. Mr. Twain knew that there was a strange evil within this building but it did not stop him from staying. He was able to write some of his best work while living within this residence. He encountered a total of twenty-two spirits during his time at The House of Death. Twain truly loved this location and decided to stay here after death.

All of these places had some form of tragedy happen at them and they are quite scary to visit. Some people are not bothered by the strange noises that happen within these old buildings. During Halloween many of the residents will host parties which are centered around these ghostly events.

Edgar Allen Poe is still living at Furman Hall which is located at New York University. Mr. Poe's spirit is seen by many of the faculty and students who come to this campus every day.
