How To Come Up With Milk Tank And Silo

By Tammie Caldwell

Farmer who rear dairy cattle in large scale or in ranches they ought to have big storage facilities to temporarily store their products awaiting transportation. The facilities include big tanks for holding and cooling lacteal secretion of cows until the haulers come and pick it up, the product are maintained under very cold temperatures to avoid damage. Cooling facilities are the most important items in a dairy farm. So farmers should invest in milk tank and silo to maximize their profit and minimize damages.

Dairy products need proper storage system because they are highly perishable products. Storage containers are designed to have conical or flat bottom mounted on flexible legs. Effective and proper insulation makes storage containers suitable for storing cream, milk and many other dairy products to keep them fresh.

When the lacteal secretion is put into theses cooling tanks, temperatures inside the container is reduced to low levels to be able to maintain your content fresh until it is picked up by haulers. Hygiene is very important, the tanks are supposed to be cleaned each and every time they handle dairy products.

After milking your cows the next stop is storing it in the storage silos which are refrigerated and are of several sizes and shapes. The lacteal secretion is stored at very low degrees in the cooler but only forty eight hours or less. Silos and containers are agitated to ensure the content is cold and to prevent milk from separating from fat.

After collection, storage containers or silos and pipes used for inlet and outlet are washed. Products from farm are collected after twenty four to forty eight hours, during collection milk is stored in tankers made of stainless steel and insulated so as to keep the content inside cold.

Containers for storage and cooling are readily available in the market for those farmers who wish to buy them and have the require capital, for those farmers with inadequate capital to invest in these coolers, they can rent it and use then do the payment slowly through a monthly fee payment.

There is a forty centimeter manhole on top of every cooling container that is closed. This is very necessary because it allows for systematic cleaning and thorough inspection of interior containers whenever necessary. This manhole is supposed to be covered using lid and water tight sealed using rubber ring. Also on top of this big container there are two to four pipes installed to serve as inlets.

Direct expansion is one of the types for cooling, here a container is fitted with pipes carrying refrigerant which are attached to the outside chamber. Direct expansion cannot be carried out in the absence of content or lacteal secretion inside the container, in case it is done without, walls of the container will automatically freeze. The silo is quickly cooled as warm content flows in. The container is then cooled at a slow rate to maintain that low temperature.

For large container these speedy cooling calls for big refrigerators compressors to expel heat from the dairy product quickly. This is only possible in large farms where there is the presence of electrical power that is three phase.
