Public Motivational Speaking Is An Art That Can Be Learned

By Walter White

Thousands upon thousands of events every year feature someone who is supposed to motivate the audience. It may be an athlete, somebody that overcame a horrible trauma triumphantly, or somebody that succeeded against all odds, to name just a few examples. Their stories and experiences are told to inspire the rest of the people, to tell them that there is always hope and that they must never give up. In fact, public motivational speaking is big business indeed.

It seems that people have an unquenchable thirst for knowing exactly what happened during a calamity or when things went terribly wrong for a specific person. When a particularly gripping story gains attention, the person in the middle of it all is often asked to share his experiences. Many such speakers are not good at addressing crowds, however.

Amateur motivating speakers may have a great message to convey, but they often do not know how to do it effectively. They are expected to appear in front of large audiences, television and radio to tell there stories without knowing the many tricks and techniques that are routinely used by experienced speakers. But where are they to find professional help.

Luckily, newcomers to this field can quickly learn the basics of capturing the attention of an audience and to bring across a message clearly and in an engaging manner. There are many websites that offer advice, basic training and numerous tips on this subject. Nobody is born with the ability to speak in an engaging way. It is a talent that can be learnt and even those that will never embark on a career to motivate others will benefit.

Many speakers are only active for a short while because they have a specific message and once they feel that they have delivered that message they disappear. Money others, however, have turned speeches for motivating people into brand new careers. There are many different types of speakers. Celebrities, sports stars, big businessmen and pioneers are just a few examples. They all have one thing in common, however. They believe that people can become inspired by them.

The fees charged by some of the top speakers can easily become tens of thousands of dollars for a single event. Such speakers are nevertheless extremely popular and they are often booked long in advance. Many of these speakers are also authors of books that iterate their core messages and some even have their own television and radio shows. It can certainly be a lucrative career but there is not place for many professionals at the very top.

There can be no doubt that the presence of a top notch speaker adds prestige and sparkle to any event. There are many critics, however. They say that these speakers repeat the same old message over and over again. They turn ordinary events into miracles and they make people believe that they have achieved extraordinary things. This is simply not the case, argues critics. People may be inspired by such speakers, but only for a very short time.

The secret of successful motivational lecturing is in making the audience believe that they are hearing a new and fresh message that can help them change their own lives. Freshly inspired many members of the audience will indeed resolve to change themselves. Sadly, this inspiration is often very short lived.
