By Harriett Crosby

Paulownia trees are a distinct type of deciduous plants which are very popular in United States. They are hardwood in nature. The plants grow in all types of climates provided that the soils are well watered. They have long serrated leaves which tend to grow smaller as the tree ages. The tree is characterized by shiny flowers which are purple in color. A typical Paulownia tree grows to an average 60 feet.

The growth of this precious tree dates back around 3000 years ago in China. The tree reached the United States of America in the 1880s by chance. Indeed the material of the tree was used as a packing material to protect Chinese dinnerware on transit to America. The material while on transit used to shed seeds on the dinnerware which was then thrown to the wild on arrival to America. The seeds then sprouted to wonderful plant.

Paulownia plant ha the ability to develop in every farm land. Its development is estimated to be 8 to 10 years from which it is harvested. As soon as the harvesting is over, stump of the tree do sprout to a new plant. This provides the landowner with a benefit because they are not prompted to return to nursery beds to select new ones. Users of this precious wood used it to make home furniture, packaging containers and musical instruments.

The growth of this tree has numerous environmental advantages. They absorb environmental pollutants resulting from hog and dairy farming. They regulate the water level. This is because their roots go so deep approximately 40 feet removing all the salts which are in the water. Moreover, the tree prevents soil erosion from occurring. Indeed these trees are very common in areas which experience deep soil erosion. They hold the soils very intact preventing any kind of erosion along gulley and steep areas.

Even though these trees may develop on their own, they could be made to grow fast in case adequate conditions of sunlight, water and plant food are available. The soils should be properly drained. Care must be taken not to grow the tree in watery soils because it will be attacked by various fungal diseases which will lead to their death.

The trees should be subjected to sufficient sunlight. Make sure that plants are not blocked from reaching sunlight by any other object. They should be able fully exposed to the sun. Ensure that the canopies of the plant are way above the rest of the trees. This will expose the plant to sufficient sunlight will make it carry its photosynthesis process very well.

The plant food is definitely the fertilizer. Ammonia nitrate is applied to the plant in the ratio of 30:0:0. This fertilizer provides the nutrient requirements necessary for this plant to grow. Also, this ammonia nitrate when used in excess has the effect of killing all the weeds which might grow around this tree.

Good practices of insect, weed and fungi control in Paulownia trees planting need to be embraced. The best insecticides, herbicides as well as fungicides need to be sprayed on regular basis. Doing so will render the plant healthy.
