Earthquakes may come in unexpected situations. That is why it is important for us to be prepared in some dangerous things that might happen. Aside from that, we are not the only one that needs to prepared, but also establishments.

Yes, you heard it right. Buildings should be prepared as well. There are organizations that ensure every building being built should withstand an earthquake. By doing this, the people that are in that specific establishment will be safe. OSHPD OSP is one of the programs that will ensure that every hospitals and health establishment can withstand earthquakes. This is vital and this is the reason why most hospitals these days are required to get an OSP certification.

Our topic for today is not all about these certified buildings, but how you can prevent yourself in these disastrous situation. Some buildings might be built to withstand the force of nature. However, it does not mean that it is full proof. Knowing this, it is still better to be prepared.

First off, is to have enough water during blackouts. In case where the power supply of a building is cut off, then at least you still have some water with you. This will prevent you from starvation as well as dehydration, which is a common cause of death.

If possible, pack some foods as well. This will ensure that if you will get trapped in a pile of stone, you still have something to eat, while the rescuers are searching for you. Be sure, you do not pack foods that can dehydrate or will make you thirsty. Just bring light ones such as sandwiches and canned goods. Of course, you do not have to bring a lot of them.

If the power is down, flash flight is a necessity. There are flashlights nowadays that are portable, which is beneficial in this type of situation. Do not bring those large lights, a portable one is enough. Aside from that, phones can also be an alternative. However, the disadvantage of using a phone is its battery constrains.

USB is not really important, however this is worth mentioning, especially to those working individuals. If you are making a very essential project, and losing it takes a part of your life, then save it as quickly as you can to your portable stick is your job. However, you have to refrain from doing this, if the shakes are outrageously devastating.

Hospitals usually have a bunch of beds for their patients. Hiding on it can save your life. Some debris might fall off from the ceiling, so having you covered is vital. If you panic, you should not be able to get down there in time. You just have to stay calm and cover up.

If you are in a hospital that is accredited with OSHPD, then these earthquakes should not be a problem. However, there are some hospitals that do not have this. If you are concerned about it, then looking for a hospital that is accredited is essential. However, it is still best to be prepared when this happens. By following these tips, you should be able to survive.
