How Center Pivot Irrigation System Functions

If you already have experienced being in a plane over an agricultural place, you may have a casual glance outside the window. You might have seen the weird circular shapes beneath. Those circular shapes are the fields. As a matter of fact, they are usually circular in shape.

There are lots of circular fields that they have been seen as a sort of practical jokes. Some could not help but express disbelief of such. As a first timer, you might have wondered what those are and why they are shaped just like that. A center pivot irrigation system is the answer. As its name suggested, it is an irrigation method which, unlike the traditional method, does not make use much of the touch of human hands after setting it up initially.

With this machine, the irrigation is done in a circular and smooth motion. Thanks to its central point. Aside from being convenient, it is also versatile, making the entire process more effective and at the same time, more efficient. Aside from water, one can also add herbicides and fertilizers can be added. Several uses or functions can be performed with just one system.

This machine has been used in the agricultural sector for barely ten years or more. Because of its ability to increase yields and lessen the waste of water compared to the traditional ones, it is considered as a one of a kind mechanized irrigation systems invented by man. However, it can be a kind of complex system that relies on both new and old technology.

It is amazing to note how this system functions. To do so, its components or parts are of a great essence. The earlier version consisted only of three basic but essential parts namely the pipes, sprinklers, and pumps. These were gathered by the creator, assembled, and raised off the firm ground.

Many years passed and modifications had been made for it to function according to the changing needs and of course, modern time. New parts have been added for it to function better and met the needs of irrigation accordingly. This is what makes this thing a complex one that strongly depends on both kinds of technologies, as written earlier. Simply put, it is a combination of both versions.

Most of its models are operated by electricity. Using a public electric source or generator, using this machinery is made possible. An alternating current with one hundred twenty or four hundred eighty volts is essential for it to operate. The one hundred twenty VAC is used to power up the movement of its LRDU, pivot, and safety circuits. For its drive unit to make a move, there is such thing as power circuits that gives these units the drive.

Its main uses are performed by its panel. Although there are different types of a control panel in every model, the way how it is used and how it functioned are basically the same. As written earlier that it is operated by an electrical source of energy, a control panel contains a command that will send some sort of signals to the central point or pivot until such signal has reached the LRDU.

The movement of last regular drive unit or for short, LRDU can be forward or the opposite. This leads the pivot which is continuously making movements until the next tower type box is in the process of activation caused by an apparatus that establishes a connection between the last piece of a span and second to last piece of a tower. As a pivot point moves down and continues doing so, all other towers will also move.
