Have Fun With Stock Market Board Games

By Jeannie Chapman

There was a time when just about every family had a game night. Cards, puzzles or a board game, it didn't matter, it was about being together. With our hyper-active lives many people are rediscovering this simple pleasure once again. For a night with some educational benefit, you might try one of the stock market board games that are available. So put away the technology for a few hours and reconnect with family and friends.

Playing a game with the family or friends is really a lot of fun. People have been playing cards and games for many, many decades. It's not just the fun and friendly competition, but it is a chance to relax and bond a little. It may seem like an old-fashioned idea, but even today's mental health professionals say it is important to unplug and enjoy real human to human contact. That is exactly what getting together around a game can do.

It's not only about relaxation. These type of games also exercise the brain. Buying and selling stocks and other investments, calculating earnings, figuring out what to buy and what to sell makes you think a bit. Maybe the best part is handling the money (even if it is phoney). Adults and kids both like to handle a big bankroll of cash.

Playing with the whole family is a great experience and a way to reconnect. There are also educational aspects of the game that provide even more benefits to kids. Stock market board games teach children the value of money and it utilizes and strengthens their math skills. It also teaches them investment basics and the benefits of saving. Not a bad for a night of having fun.

Don't think of a board game as a thing for kids only. An evening with a game, a group of friends and a bottle of wine can be a real blast. If you really want to add some spice, you can turn it into a drinking game. Double your investment, take a sip. Lose it all, drain it. There are lots of variations on this theme as you might imagine. Be creative. Try it out and you'll have a great time. Just be responsible.

The renewed interest in investment and stock market board games means that they are easy to find. Big retailers have aisles full of titles. Online retailers also have huge selections and you can find some independent titles with some searching. For those who remember these types of games from the 70's and earlier, you can check auction sites to find some old classics like Rich Uncle, Buy and Sell and The Stock Market Game.

If you must, you can play these classics online as well. Most have mobile and tablet versions so you can play on the go. You can play friends, strangers from around the world or by yourself. It's not like the real thing, but, okay, it's still fun.

Unwinding playing stock market board games is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with friends and family. Everyone will have a ball and the younger ones will get some educational benefits by improving math and get them exposed to basic investment concepts.
