What To Do To Use A Heliport Lighting System And Landing Facility

By Minnie Whitley

No matter where you are at, there will always be strict guidelines that must be followed when planning a helicopter landing facility. The said facility can be heliports or helipads. Whatever you choose, you have to follow what the law requires when it comes to these systems. Otherwise, you will truly get in trouble with the law.

If you are interested in having a heliport lighting system and landing facility, you better ask for the assistance of an attorney. An attorney who frequently deals with this kind of problem can be of great help to you. You can ask them a lot of questions about the establishment of the heliports. They can provide you with the answer you are looking for.

While it may be good for you to have the aid of a lawyer, you should not just rely entirely on the latter. Do some research about this construction project yourself, too. Know what the basic guidelines are for the making of the said facility. Here are those basic knowledge you have to know about when it comes to the construction of the facility.

The first thing that you will need to do is to get to know the Code of Federal Regulations. The said regulation allows you to know what documents you have to complete and what plans you should follow for the construction. It will make it easier for you to handle the construction if you have a plan made after considering the federal regulations.

Pay close attention to the maneuvering zone of the said facility. There must be enough space in the said zone. Aside from the zone, there must be an extension of one blade length or rotor radius on all sides from your maneuvering zone. There must be no projections on your deck that are more than four feet tall.

Another thing to keep a close eye on is the making of the approach or departure zone. There should be a distance between the two of them. In fact, it is better to separate them by an angle of 90 degrees. Make sure that the arrival and departure zone does not have any projections on the deck which will hinder your arriving or departing vessels.

Calculate the loading and stability of the vessel. You need to make the said calculations so that you do not end up with the wrong balance. It will greatly affect how safe and how long you can use the said helicopter landing.

Have a hoisting facility as well. The helicopters usually have to deal with hauling items too. If you cannot ensure the existence of a hoisting facility, then the landing facility is not a suitable place to haul items at. If you have a hoisting facility, make sure that no projections are there to avoid hindering the vessels.

You have to create an operations manual. The written manual will be used to describe the helicopter landing facility. The operations manual should also have a checklist of its safety precautions. Aside from that, equipment restrictions and requirements should be written in there as well.
