How To Prevent Extreme Cluttering

By Jessica Fox

Living in a messy house or office can have a negative impact in your life. Many individuals suffer from different psychological disorders because of extreme cluttering. Clutter does not only affect how living spaces look, it affects health. Untidy places cause stress and anxiety in a person's life. You are unable to focus on your main goal because clutter interferes with your thinking. Finding something in a pile of papers or clothes is overwhelming.

Cleaning your space is the most effective way to overcome clutter. Maintaining clean and tidy space saves you money. In most cases, people pay professionals to get rid of extreme mess within households and offices. Save some money by engaging in cleaning activities. During this exercise, get rid of anything that is not of use. Old items in the living room should be placed in a bin for sorting later.

Drawers and closets tend to hold a lot of unused items. Remove everything in your wardrobe and drawers. Inspect your clothes thoroughly, you will come across clothes you have not worn for more than six months. Such clothes may be too small or make you feel uncomfortable. Place them in your sorting basket together with shoes you have outgrown. Clean the drawers or wardrobe and arrange the remaining garments and shoes neatly.

It is always wise to clean your room at least once or twice a week. Many individuals throw items underneath the bed and forget to clean. This habit leads to extreme cluttering in the house. Check underneath your bed to get rid of items such as toys, shoes, socks, and clothing. Clean the entire room and place everything classified as clutter in one sorting basket.

The next step is usually tiresome and time-consuming. Ask a close friend or relative to help you sort clutter. If you feel comfortable doing the work alone, create space within the house for the sorting exercise. Take a close look at each item to determine if it is worth keeping. It is difficult to identify what should remain in the house and what should go to the store or charity. However, you can make wise decisions if you consider some factors.

There are several things you need to consider when choosing items. Ask yourself if you really need an item, when you intend to use it or how it affects you emotionally. Asking yourself these questions helps determine what is worth keeping.

Divide the sorting pile into three categories. Things like keys, pens, and notebooks are utilized every day. Keep them inside a container or box. This makes work easy when looking for an item. Place tools within a portable toolbox and store it somewhere safe within reach.

Clothes, shoes, and accessories should be evaluated carefully. Inspect your clothes to identify which ones fit well. Place those that fit well in clear boxes or hang them on a cloth hanger in the garage. This storage technique frees up space and makes work easy when searching for clothes. It is recommended that you give clothes, shoes, and toys to charity. Avoid throwing away items that can make an impact in someone else's life.
