Traits Of Emotional Intelligence Leadership Development

By Ruth Green

There are leaders in almost every part of our lives depending on what class and company you relate with. We have national ones, religious ones and even in our families, they do exist. In order for one to be a leader, they need to pose certain characteristics. They should be emotionally intelligent seeing as they are going to be dealing with different kinds of people on a daily basis. Below are some of the characteristics of emotional intelligence leadership development.

It would be east to work under a person who genuinely cares about what is going on with life and actually cares how you feel about changes made in the place of work. It makes the work environment so much easier to operate in. Most organizations do not do very well because the employees have not connected emotionally with their bosses.

Without communication, nothing would ever get done. A leader should be able to relay information to their employees effectively. The workers will always know what is expected of them and will strive to provide it. A leader should also be able to listen to the employees without judgment. The company will run smooth as there will be no fear of reaching out.

Just like everyone else, a leader needs self-awareness. It is important for them to acknowledge the areas in which they are strong and exploit them. When hiring they can pick out the applicants who show strength where the leader is weak. This helps the company to find a balance and therefore activities go on as needed. Without self-awareness, a leader may lead the company into a darkness that may be heard to recover from.

Respect is a key thing in every relationship. However, respect should not only be between two or more people. A person should be able to respect themselves. The way you treat yourself around people is exactly how they will treat you. A leader, therefore, should not only respect their employees but also handle themselves with respect as well.

Leaders often feel that showing vulnerability is a sign of weakness. It is actually not when talking to your staff. You should be able to sit them down and tell them what they are supposed to do. You should tell them when you do not feel that a project will go right. They may actually be able to help by assuring you. You also will be able to connect with them on a much deeper emotional level.

Another way to be an intelligent leader is to put your sense of humor to good use. If at every meeting everything is so serious, the environment will always be so tense. As an employer, you should try cracking appropriate jokes with your staff and allow your staff to do the same. They will have a fun environment and more pleasant to work in.

Whenever there is a crisis, employees look to their employers on how to react. If the leader panics, they too will panic and will not be able to contain themselves. An emotionally intelligent leader should be able to handle every situation confidently and at no point show any kind of panic or fear.
