Digital Stamps And How To Make Them

By Heidi Arrowood

The first thing you need to make a digital stamp is a sketch. You can either sketch a design on paper or sketch digitally on the iPad. Once you have your sketch you need to ink the image. When you ink an image that just means you go over your sketch with a black marker or ink digitally on the iPad. My favorite app to ink digitally in is Adobe Ideas. Inking will give your digital stamp a nice solid outline that stampers can color in.

Scan your paper inked image at 300 dpi and email your digital ink, to bring into Photoshop and editing program. Save your image as a jpeg file after you resize it. Your digital stamp should fit within a 4x5 box and sit in the middle of an 8.5 x10 document. Label your digital stamp with your company name or name, OwlDoodle-2cuteink.jpeg.

For your digi shop you want to create a digital stamp with a watermark. What does watermark mean? ( c) 2cuteink is an example of a water mark with the copyright symbol in front followed by the company name. The watermark goes on top of this digital stamp to prevent people from stealing the image. By creating a new layer in Photoshop you can type your information, change the opacity to 50% and create your watermark. By typing your watermark information a few times allows for the words to go across the length of the digital stamp. Moving your watermark layer on top of the digital stamp layer the words go over the digi and now you have a watermarked digital stamp. OwlDoodleCR-2cuteink.jpg is how to save your watermark.

You are now ready to upload your watermarked digital stamp to you shop. Godaddy, Art Fire and Esty are websites where you can create a shop all by yourself. You can make a instant download shop on Etsy and Godaddy, where customers get there digital stamp instantly. No need to email the digital stamps manually. Shopping carts have two spots, one for the watermarked and one for non- watermarked digital stamps.

Lastly, anyone can make and sell their own digital stamps! Companies work with artists now to sell digital stamps, where then a royalty is given to the artist. Also many artists have started their own shops which lets them sell their own artwork and have more control and one on one with the customers. Making digital stamps doesn't require money, just time and the ability to sketch out an idea and then ink it.
