Silk ribbon embroidery is a beautiful piece of embroidery art that uses silk. It can delivery stunning and elegant result on a skilled hand and has numerous applications. They can render a three dimensional image of any floral design. It takes a lot of practice to get the skill, patience and so much work at hand. Here are some tips to help the beginners to get started.

First off, the preparatory phase is vital component of this whole process. Start by selecting the quality ribbon you will be using. It is a must that it should be made of tough materials to make it last longer and do not settle for cheap ones. The recommended material is pure silk but other alternative depending on your inclinations like rayon, satin and more. Secure the minimum length of the material fro each color around 3 to 5 meters.

You should consider on what ideal embroidery thread you will be using. The design and color should match with the thread that you have chosen. It is imperative that it is of the best quality to keep the ribbon down for a long period of time and after some washing.

There is a special type of needed for this kind of work as well. Use chenille needle for its large and sharp point if you are stitching a woven fabric that is tight but for the loose one such as in sweater the recommended needle is tapestry. Just be reminded that the bigger the eye in of these needles will create a bigger hole for the fabric, thus it is easier for the ribbons to pass through.

Be reminded to choose a short ribbon before you start knitting. These ribbons have been known for its susceptibility to fray quickly. Thereby, the shorter it will be the better the craft you can create because we are avoiding any instances that it will pass through the fabric repeatedly. The ideal length of these ribbons are either 30 centimeters or 12 inches.

To avoid leaving bumps under your work of art it is advisable to leave a small tail at the end of a ribbon of about one centimeter or three eight of an inch. It must be positioned at the back of your work to obstruct not the view. At the end of your craft you can stitch of all these tails by a thin embroidery thread from one end to another.

Be reminded not to hold the thread too tightly. When you start embroidering, work by loosen up the pressure on handling the thread. This is useful in keeping the shape of the stitches and will not pull the ribbons out of shape. This can help those ribbons from fraying as well.

There is a great possibility that twisting can happen on these ribbons you are working. You have to stop such instances from occurring by securing each stitches on the same fabric. You hold down in place those stitches through your thumb and at the same time you remove those ribbons.

One last tip, you make sure you have a clean hand when stitching the silk ribbon embroidery. There is a lot of other purposes that this embroidery will serve you such as for book and dishes cover, decorative pillows and even jewelry like brooches and pendant. It entirely depends on how creative you are and who knows you might come up with a new purpose of it.
