Maintaining Strength Within An Obstacle Course Race

By Robbie Sutter

An obstacle course race is most likely going to entail a great amount of work and this means that you're going to have to keep an eye out. This doesn't just go for the path that a race entails but the actions that you go about doing in this sort of competition as well. You want to be able to work hard in a competition like this but are there certain factors that should be kept in mind? I believe this to be true, especially when you think about what can alter your strength in this type of competition.

If you're working within an obstacle course race or any other race for that matter, I would recommend that you do not sprint the first chance that you get. Yes, a head start may seem attractive but the fact is that you will tire yourself out before you know it. You want to retain energy and this is an ideal way for such energy to become wasted. Keep this element at a substantial level and you'll benefit from events along the lines of Spartan Race.

While you're training for a race, I want you to look at how you have your hands positioned. By this, I mean do you have your fingers gripped in such a way that they ball into fists? If such a scenario exists, I would recommend that you keep your fingers loose because running with closed fists only makes the muscles work harder and you won't run as effectively as you would have otherwise. For the sake of better results in a race, keep your hands relaxed.

Determination is going to be seen in a race of this caliber and your focus is going to be required. This means that you should not become distracted by anything, making sure that your focus is on the track. Typically these types of competitions are going to have audience but do not let their cheers or cries take your attention away from the goal. As long as your mind remains centered, you should be fine as the progress you will soon make is concerned.

Maintaining strength within an obstacle course race is going to take some work but not nearly as much as you might think. The steps I've just listed are actually pretty simple when you take a moment to assess all of them. These are the kinds of actions that should be taken up, if you're looking to keep said strength. If you're looking for more methods to take into account, do not forego the idea of further research since it holds much in the way of potential.
