Essential Information Concerning Breast Reduction Surgery

By Andrew Moore

Breast reduction surgery is also referred to as reduction mammoplasty. It is a process during which a cosmetic specialist removes a predetermined amount of breast tissue and skin from a woman's chest for the purpose of reducing the size of her breasts. The size of the areola is also sometimes altered in order to maintain appropriate proportions.

There is a broad range of reasons an individual may have for desiring such a procedure. A woman may feel as if her breasts are unnaturally large, and therefore out of proportion. Additionally, women with large breasts may suffer from poor posture and backache. These are often the result of slouching and hunching, which are habits large busted women sometimes develop unintentionally.

Certain women who participate in sports may feel that they are limited by the size of their breasts. This is particularly true if a woman is planning a career as a professional athlete. Understandably, certain moves may be awkward or uncomfortable for large busted women.

Having the aforementioned surgery performed can eliminate many of the issues mentioned above. It is essential, however, for prospective patients to carefully review all the advantages and disadvantages of such a procedure: all surgeries, even those that are cosmetic in nature, can be risky.

Some of the risks involved with the surgery include loss of sensation in the nipple area: because the areola and nipple must be removed during the procedure and stitched to a different location, nerve damage is sometimes a common side effect. Additionally, mild scarring is usually unavoidable when such surgery is performed. General complications may also occur, although serious side effects such as an allergy to anesthesia are rare.

Prior to making a final decision regarding breast reduction, it is essential for patients to locate the most suitable doctor for the task. This is because surgery of this kind results in major changes to a woman's body, and she must feel comfortable talking about all aspects of the process with her surgeon. Ultimately, before scheduling surgery, each woman must carefully weigh all the pros and cons associated with such procedures.
