Facts About The Reading Disorders

It is actually nice to engage yourself in reading a lot of books. Needless to say, it can make you smarter due to the endless things you will know when you open a page. But other than that, you will also find it entertaining to formulate visualizations in your brain when decoding stories and various literature books. You will surely enjoy the feeling.

But aside from the joy and recreation it brings, it also benefits you a lot. Basically, it assists you in your struggles with your academic endeavors as well as with your dealings with life. Given this, the skill of knowing how to read holds a very valuable role in life. But there are some disabilities which can which cause some impediments in the skill called the reading disorders.

This disorder is identified if there is a recognizable impairment in reading such as in speed, accuracy, and comprehension. But it is only diagnosed to be a disability if the impairment goes to as much as affecting the academic achievement of a person as well as his daily living. In other terms, people call this disability as dyslexia.

But the case is not the same since only the areas of writing and spelling is involved in dyslexia. But in the case of this impairment, it involves a different level which is associated to that of a learning disorder. With that, it is defined as an impairment that signifies a gap between the general intelligence of a person and his ability.

So it does not follow that one with this impairment has a low IQ because this is basically part of a learning disorder. The case of learning disorders is actually that which is refers to a kind of difficulty which can lead to poor academic performance. However, it is not related with low intelligence, lack of opportunities for learning, mental retardation, and physical disabilities.

They basically continue to exist even in individuals with normal IQ, learning motivation, and sufficient opportunities for education. It is only that there is a significant gap between actual achievement and the performance level. It is actually just like the case of those who find the english subject or math subject incredibly hard to learn.

So basically, the common issues met by the sufferers of this are the following. One is the lack of comprehension skills during reading whether it is oral or silent. Aside from that, is the event of word omission and the reversal of letters and words. Still another case is the difficulty in decoding words and associating them with sounds. Not only that, they also have poor vocabulary.

With several studies, researches found out that the cause of this disorder is due to some mutations of genes corresponding to the language skills and that it is not necessarily inherited. That is because the ninety percent of individuals who have this do not belong to families with a history of the disorder. It is just that there is some malfunction in the language lobe of the brain.

But since this disability wastes much of what has to be perform in life, treatments were identified. Basically, the approach may vary since it has been agreed that the diagnosis be catered to. This means that the instruction would be customized as to the particular area of impairment an individual suffers.
