How To Start A Norwalk CT Lawn Care Business

By Jocelyn Davidson

Many homeowners want a manicured look for their yard and for it to remain green and fresh despite the season. Getting such a yard is not easy and it requires the right kind of tools, a routine maintenance and soon it becomes cheap to maintain. Stocking up on certain simple tools will keep you in the Norwalk CT lawn care business and give your clients the enviable yard in their neighborhood.

A yard mower goes without saying should be the first item in your shop. Grass remains green and healthy when it is trimmed on a regular basis. Trimming allows for the new grass to spring forth and it avoids browning of the grass closest to the ground. Two mowers are preferred by most namely the reel or rotary mower. Check also for mowers that have a bagging option. One can choose to keep their clipping as they mow or simply have them fly off onto the place. Keeping grass clipping to later manure the garden with them is good advice your clients will thank you for.

A wheelbarrow or garden cart goes without saying is a highly important tool. You use it to move your tools around, to carry fertilizer, clippings and other materials into and out of your yard. Do not break your back doing all the heavy work when a nice well-oiled wheelbarrow can do the job for you.

A rake is one of the oldest yet most important yard maintenance tools. It is used to easily remove unwanted debris and leaves from your lawn to keep it looking clean and fresh. For those addicted to yard maintenance, they know how raking your yard is an easy way to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

Part of a good looking yard is the well-kept flower bed on the side. When caring for the backyard, do not forget the flowers. A good pair of grass or pruning shears is necessary to trim branches. A mower cannot cut the grass near the flower bed to avoid destroying the garden. A pair of shears is used for this task to maintain a clean look.

A healthy yard requires you to keep pests out. You will need a good spreader for this task. A push type spreader or any other is used to distribute pesticides and apply fertilizer as well. Spreaders can be quite pricey but not to worry as they are along term investment and most will last well over 6 years.

Liquid pesticide requires a comfortable easy to use back sprayer. Simple ones used for your yard go up to 5 gallon capacity sprayers. Sprayers are with electricity or gasoline powered. The latter are more common and easier to use.

To keep the soil healthy for years, every proud home owner has to aerate their areas. A manual aerator is good for small yards but those with much bigger tracts will need a motorized aerator. Both perform the job well by poking holes in the soil. Some simply poke whilst other remove cylindrical mounds of soil creating bigger holes for the moisture, air and nutrients to get in. An aerator though more expensive than other tools is a basic yard maintenance tool and cannot be exempted.
