Lay sod properly. Before laying the sod, the soil must be prepared. Get rid of weeds and tilth the soil finely. Compress the soil lightly yet firmly, and make certain it's flat. The soil should always receive adequate moisture. When laying down sod, create staggered rows with offset joints. Make sure that the sod forms an even, flat surface, and if you have any gaps show between the sod, fill them with a little bit of soil. The sod needs to be watered daily for two weeks, by which time it will be rooted and ready to walk on.

In the cold winter months, you can salvage certain plants by bringing them into the house. Think about saving your resistant plants or the expensive ones. Dig around the roots carefully and transfer the plant to a pot.

When you get new plants for your garden, make sure you are meeting their sun requirements. Some plants prefer low sun and shady areas, while other plants require full sun in order to thrive. Giving your plants the wrong light level can cause them to wilt and die too soon.

Slide your fingernails against a bar of soap to prevent dirt from getting under your nails. The dirt doesn't necessarily hurt you, but you will save time and effort when cleaning your hands later. Instead of having to dig underneath your nails, you can just use a nailbrush to quickly remove the soap residue.

Use foliar feeding to help shocked or struggling plants recover. Plants can consume nutrients through their leaves quicker than through their roots. If they are having trouble getting nutrients through their roots, spray their leaves with liquid food. Be careful not to overfeed them this way. They may need to feed only twice a month.

Use compost that is homemade and free. Making a habit of using leaves, pulled plants and other organic bits, will create a rich and nutritious compost for the garden that is free and organic. Additionally, if an enclosed composter is utilized, kitchen scraps and garbage can be thrown in a mix for an excellent compost that is free also.
