How Is Your Drug Addiction Hurting Your Family?

By Tina Bacon

Many young men and women in the United States are getting high on drugs these days. A lot of the time, these young men and women were taught how to take drugs from their parents. The illegal use of heroin is a drug that is sweeping the nation right now. Many young adults between the ages of 18 and 35 seem to be affected the most. If you live in New York City, New Hampshire, Florida and New Jersey, then you need a good education on how to stay away from these types of drugs. Heroin use has shown to be at an all-time high in these states. It is important to understand why you are addicted to drugs in the first place.

Drug and alcohol treatment centers often have a unique approach to treatment for drugs and alcohol. Each treatment center offers someone the opportunity to get help via 12 step or holistic. Many treatment centers find that they have many reasons why they are successful. Children are often hurting for their parents. Growing up, they watched them getting high on the couch and shooting up heroin. Unfortunately, many children grow up to be drug addicts themselves. It is estimated that 1 in every 4 adults will become addicts if their parents were addicts. That is a high percentage being we live in one of the most educated countries in the world.

As you can see, heroin and cocaine addiction is costly. Many fathers are doing drugs and their children are seeing this in the household. When they grow up, they follow in the footsteps of their parents. Drug addiction is no different than any other addiction. It is one of the hardest battles to face in life. If you feel like you have a drug and alcohol addiction problem, it is important to find help right away. You can easily learn more about addiction by consulting a friend about the issue or talking to someone that understand the addiction as well. Nobody knows for sure how many times you will have to go to rehab in order to overcome addiction. Many people go to rehab more than 3 times before choosing to lead a sober life.

There is no instant cure for addiction. Many addicts spend years trying to help their fathers out with addiction. However, they themselves often become addicted in the process. Many drug treatment centers are finding that faith is what keeps a person sober. People that have a love for their "God" actually stay sober for life. Many faith based programs actually help to keep a person sober. Many people often ask themselves which program works best. Now a days, you have a choice. Many faith based programs that are 12 step actually work well. Others prefer a holistic approach because they have already tried a 12 step program and it failed for them.

I believe in sobriety 100%. You must encourage your family members to go to rehab if they are having a problem with addiction. It takes an entire families help to get the addict into a program that works well for them. The world is full of people that are hurting from addiction. If you are a father, please take it upon yourself to get help. Your child needs you to show them the way to sobriety. If you have an addiction, they will often have an addiction as well. Everything takes time to figure out and sobriety is often the best way of getting help for you and a loved one.
