Procedure On Grandfather Clock Regulation

By Brian Parker

The most vital thing in most watches is their movement. The movement is responsible for timekeeping as well as controlling the chime and its hour strike. Other devices that are necessary for the grandfather clock regulation are the weighs and pendulums. The pendulum is very important as it helps to regulate the time thus it has to be adjusted well if one wants to achieve accurate timekeeping.

There are usually three weights located on the left side, center and right side which control the hour strike, the time and chime or melody respectively. The importance of the weights is in the proper operation of the watch hence they have to be present. More so, the weights differ in some ways, and they should be hanged well so that the time will run well.

A chain or cable is used to hang the weights from the movement, and they have to be raised after every seven days failure to which the wristwatch will stop working. The sounds made by the strike and chime emanate by hammers hitting several length rods. The rods usually make different sounds when the hammer hits them and the specific melodies are made by controlling the sequence that every hammer hits its rod.

A person should have an idea of how the wristwatch works and master the different components together with their different uses so that he can regulate this antique watch. It is wise to make sure that where you are placing the clock is flat so that it can be sturdy and firm to prevent falling. Adjusting all its levers is mandatory for stability.

Once you have stabilized the watch, you are required to hang the pendulums in their right positions. A colored plastic film is used to cover the disk to protect it from damage. The disc should thus be removed very carefully before you hang the pendulums. The procedure should be closely followed so as not to damage pendulums which tend to be so vital to the wristwatch.

After hanging the pendulums, you can then hang the weights. It is advisable to check the weights to make sure that they have been assembled properly and tightly. Also, you should ensure that the cables are fastened well in the cable pulleys then hang the weight on the pulleys.

If the watch has more features like a moving moon dial, you can set it as well. This can be done by applying some pressure to the front part of the moon dial using your fingers. You then have to rotate the dial clockwise if the moon dial fails to rotate, you can try to set it again after six hours. You should not force the dial as it is supposed to move freely.

Once you have set the moon dial, you can now proceed to set the time. It is important to note that the hour hand is not supposed to be moved. Therefore, move the minute hand and the hour hand will move automatically. Also, when the hands are striking, avoid moving them then start the already regulated watch.
