EQI 20 Certification: Children S Development Through Occupation Therapy

By Jerry Kennedy

Developmental milestones are those things that average children of a certain age are able to do, they can assist parents in seeing whether their child is developing at a normal rate. Walking, dropping things, poking things and many more are examples of developmental milestones. If you notice that your child is not developing at a normal rate there are ways that you can help him/her. If you have a toddler you can consider making him play with occupational therapy toys for pre-schoolers instead of ordinary toys according to EQI 20 certification.

If you suspect that your child s senses are not developing at a normal rate then you can buy those toys that promote the use of all senses. You can buy them a toy that plays fun children s music like an automated piano. When they sing along they will start to gain confidence to talk. Also, if they play drums or cymbals on their own, over time they will be able to live in a noisy environment.

Kids may get frustrated by their surrounding since they are not familiar with a lot of things in this world. Get them toys that allow them to imagine on their own. Little girls may like playing with dolls while little boys may want to play with tools.

The child will try to imitate adults using those pretend toys, which will be a sign that they are using their imagination. Other toys that can stimulate a child s imagination if you don t want to buy a doll are trucks, pretend food or little houses for children.

Children will get frustrated when they can t solve small problems and resolve to tantrums if you don t help them develop their problem-solving skills at a young age. This skill is very important throughout a person s whole life and therefore time should be spent on enhancing this skill as early as possible in a child s life. Occupational therapy toys for this matter includes puzzles, coloring books, pegboards, play dough and many more. Put a lot of concentration on this skill.

There are great rewards in training your kid to interact with vertical surfaces since this is a pre-requisite to learning how to write. The sooner you start helping them with how to hold and use a pencil the easier it will be for them to perform well when they get to primary school. Start today by putting coloring paper on the wall for your children to encourage them to reach vertical surfaces. Or you can buy blackboards or mark pen boards and elevate them a bit on the wall.

Physical development is another crucial development milestone. You want your children to be able to perform physical things like running and jumping. A small table tennis may develop their arm muscle while a trampoline will strengthen their legs.

Now you have a bit of knowledge about occupational therapy toys for a pre-school toddler if your child shows signs of delay then intervene quickly.
