By Heinz Kaufmann

The best environment for the Siberian Husky and German Shepherd Dog Mix is definitely not the desert. These dogs do not like the water therefore it is not a nice idea to keep them in warmer climates. These dogs will not be able to cool down and will be agitated if they are required to use water to cool down.

The Siberian Husky and German Shepherd mix puppy is a very energetic dog. This means that you must have an active lifestyle if you would like to have this dog as part of your household. They need to be busy constantly and because they are very intelligent they need brainwork. Various activities like a slide or puppy ramp should keep them very busy in your home. The dogs also require sufficient playtime and as they are very smart you can have different activities for them ignite their brains and use up their energy.

As mentioned, having a wide enough fenced yard where the pet can roam around and play is recommended. This set-up will also enable the dog to keep the area as safe as it should be. Keep in mind that dogs love digging, so be prepared for some holes in your yard. German Shepherd and Siberian Husky mix are perfect for those who are fond of walking and jogging. So for lively and adventure lovers, this might be the perfect pet. For families with two year olds need not to worry since they are very gentle to kids. In fact, they usually become protectors.

At two years, these canines can weigh approximately 65 to 70 pounds. They are relatively large dogs with soft, silky furs. As to their attitude, they are usually very good-natured and yielding. There are times that these puppies tend to be perceived as wild because of being energetic. It is recommended that German Shepherd with long hairs should be shaved in the summer to keep their bodies cooler.

The main risk in terms of disease is the Valley fever which should be treated with a proper antifungal medication. This is prevalent among dogs who like to dig for fun. The dogs are very witty and can learn different tricks thereby making them amusing companions.

Siberian Huskies and German Shepherds are cold weather canines. Thus, the mixture of these breeds does not make them apt to warm weathered areas. Huskies and shepherds have five and four layers of coats respectively making them at risk during summers. They too need a lot of exercise, so it would be advisable to expose them outdoors on their fifth week. Let them run around but make sure not to leave them alone.

These dogs are very easy to feed and the puppy takes very well to foods like milk bone, peanut butter and cream cheese. Consent with the preference of the pup and they should be well fed and happy.

It is a nice idea to hide treats around the house and the intelligent dog will revel in searching around the house to improve their mental skills. As the German shepherds are green, red, black or brown the Huskies are mixed to give various colors. Both these dogs have a marking along the head and eyes. This is preserved even in the cross-bred dog but the color can be a surprise of any shade prevalent in either dog. The hair on the German Shepherd is course while the Huskies have soft hair and sometimes you can get the light eyes and curved tail of the husky. The shepherd is very loyal and the husky is a runner resulting in a magnificent combination in a dog.

Low appetite might mean that they have worms that tend to be prevalent during summers. Siberian Huskies, being sled dogs, tend to eat minimally due to their slow metabolic rate.
