The Beauty And Meaning In Hiking

By Sherman Whitney

Hiking is one of the most fulfilling yet flexible workout regimen widely practiced today. No matter which country you go, there is always a part of humanity that wants to reach great heights. They either became occasional hill trekkers or professional mountain climbers.

When a person considers his or her destination a sanctified venue, then his or her journey will be considered a special trip. Regardless of whether high ground is holy or not, hiking is a rewarding activity nonetheless. Reaching a summit of an elevated earth signifies a certain remarkable physical achievement to anyone.

Essentially, everyone will agree that hiking is an excellent workout. There is this principle in physics explaining how traversing the higher altitude should increase the gravity pull for our benefit. As far as biomechanics is concerned, the more the gravity pulls the more you exert overall physical strength and the more your muscles and stamina develop.

It is safe to assume that when one reaches the high ground, recovering the stamina would not be a very irksome ordeal to think about. The air density around the summit is denser and therefore the atmosphere cooler. A hiker can hardly, if not never, get annoyed with the fact that he or she will have less urge to drink water and gasp breathless after a fairly winding journey.

Another way of explaining why hikers feel rewarded when reaching the summit is due to the excellent view on top. It is a natural human tendency to feel pleasure at being above the world they normally live in. Human nature is more akin to elevation, either in actual or metaphysical sense and they find happiness in "marveling at how small the world can actually be".

Hikers can sometimes even hardly feel tired when they watch their surroundings from the base of the mountain up to the summit. No matter how technologically advanced humanity has become, there is still a lot about nature for us to be amazed with. For some hikers, the farther the summit is, the better as they can prolong their visual cravings.

Many professional careers consider hiking as an integral part of their work. Among these vocations is the prestigious pool of field operations conducted by educational media National Geographic society. But hiking can be a lucrative local vocation; especially for wildlife rangers and tour guides.

There is paramount learning to every activity and one very important lesson in hiking is something that not only stretches a lifetime, but also extends to the next generations. Our ecosystem needs crusaders more than ever, especially in an era where technology is often used recklessly. Hiking is one of the organized activities that will appeal to the themes of "loving our planet while we still have a chance".
