Unique Picnic Baskets And Their Essentials

By Rachael Gutierrez

Laid back summer afternoons are an ideal time for picnics. However, all the preparations required for the meals leave people wondering what they should pack in a basket. The good news is that putting a little effort in advance will pay off when a family decides to go for an impromptu outdoors dinner. Below is a look at the essentials of unique picnic baskets to get someone started on a summer laden with fun meals set outside.

A well-stocked basket should be possessed by every family. Such a family can have in mind chicken in a park or just sandwiches in a beach with fireworks slated for later in the evening. Whatever the plan, a family getting together for an outdoors meal is something nice. It seems that picnic baskets evolved a lot. Although traditionally woven baskets are good for plates, non-perishable meals and utensils, they are not so excellent to protect most of the things to be eaten at an outing.

A basket that is insulated is a much better option. The latest models are equipped with technology similar to the one found in a cooler. Such modern baskets will store food cooled for up to three hours at safe temperatures. They can even store longer if there is room for ice packs.

As soon as the best basket has been gotten, proper stocking should be done to take advantage of last minute outings. There are a couple of options here, one being convenient in that disposable cups, flatware and plates are used. The other option is much economical in that reusable utensils are used. A family that cannot choose any of the two options can use green utensils made from recycled materials such as bamboo. Such materials are not only environment friendly, but also an affordable alternative.

Whatever is chosen, the family should ensure the picnic basket is always fully stocked and raring to go. One can in a way create a kit that allows them to just pick it up and go out without having to worry whether everything that is needed is there or not.

The basket is then cleaned together with the reusable utensils that have become dirty along the way, then dried. Once the cleaning is finished, it should be restocked in readiness for the coming outing.

As much as what is actually eaten on picnics varies, there are certain things that should always be there in hand. A well-stocked basket should have plates, cups, flatware, sanitizing wipes, salt and pepper. It can also contain a number of rocks to weigh down the corners of tablecloths or blankets, a hand sanitizer, individual packets of mayo, ketchup and mustard, together with straws. If there is a toddler or baby in the family, a spare bib can be carried, as well as garbage bags and a paring knife.

As soon as these unique picnic baskets are fully stocked, what remains is throwing some food inside and then going for the outing. Storing the basket in a vehicle trunk can ease things up, as thinking about last gasp picnics will be a thing of the past for the family. Outdoor meals will become even more convenient and fun.
