All About The Art Of Landscape Design

By Eliza Mendoza

For many years already, landscape design is an old art form that has evolved over time as the its popularity increased. This all started sometime during the year of 1700 wherein many rich families had a big plot of land around their houses that was vacant. Since they wanted their houses to be grand, they hired some artists to help design that plot of land and make it look beautiful.

The utilization of trees, flowers, shrubs, or other things that would make a garden look nice is a classic move for most architects or designers in this field. Other things that one may add would be some swings or some lamps. Some would go as far as to add fountains and even small ponds or swimming pools that would attract a lot of attention from the visitors.

Sometime during the year 1800, many people were beginning to be aware of this kind of architecture simply because many were already springing up. The parks around the area needed a lot of designing because more and more people were going there. More shrubs, fountains, trees, flowers, benches, and lamps were added to make the park look good.

Nowadays, being a landscaping designer is actually a very profitable job for those who are creative and know how to play around with their artistic ideas. Good landscape designs are not only limited now to the wealthy individuals or the government officials anymore. As long as one has a garden or a yard, he may actually give it a nice look.

The best part about this is that nowadays, the price of this kind of architect is not that expensive as many have found ways to cut costs to get more customers. In fact, one may actually choose his own materials in order to cut down on costs. Of course he may also leave it up to the designer if he would want the end result to be really beautiful and splendid.

In this field of architecture, the main concept would be simple balance. When one would say balance, he means that in landscapes, the right and left side must always be balance in terms of the design while the center has to only have a little bit of decorations. If one is a designer here, then he must always take note of the concept of balance in order to produce beautiful works of art.

Color and texture of each of the decorations are extremely important because there has to be balance of both in the entire area. The color has to be in sync with the entire picture and there should not be any contrasts. Of course this is the same with the texture of decorations that would actually be used.

In landscape design, it is very important to take note of the concept of continuity or seeing the area as a whole. In other words, the designer already has to know the big idea of his whole project in his mind before he concentrates working on each of the parts. If he already has the entire concept in his mind, then he may fill in the details.
