Fixing The Rail Joiner On The Tracks

By Kenya Campos

Generally, it is possible for people to set up their own tracks. However, many people prefer to get a readymade section of the track. In the event that you go for creating your own rail, you need to ensure that you get rail joiner. The joiners are very crucial because they are the one that are used to join two or more sections together. The benefit of buying readymade joiners is that they came with drilled holes to fix your nuts and bolts. You therefore do not have to drill the holes since the manufacture have already done it for you.

If you want to join the rails using them, there are simple steps you need to consider. First, you need to snap the 2 sections of the rails into the joiners. When doing this leave a gap measuring about 3.175mm. The second step is to twist the locking tabs under the snug fit. Finally, you have to tighten the ties using the 4 stainless screws.

Majority of people prefer using the N scale track Atlas. It requires you to have your tools for you to join it. Its function is to wrap metal below or the bottom of the tracks. The joint is made in such a way that, it can hold different parts together. This helps in ensuring that the whole system is rigid by holding the both parts together. Furthermore, it is also used extensively to distribute engine power to all areas.

Joiners are not easy to work with and as such they require special skills to be able to use them effectively. They are made up of soft metal and therefore their operators must be very cautious to avoid damaging them during the joining process. This is particularly important because as soon as they get bent, it becomes very hard to restore them into their correct working condition.

The best method of installing them is to use needle nose pliers. Take one end using the pliers tip so that it sticks out straight from the end. Fit it to the end of the track and push slowly. If you encounter difficulties, try to swivel it a little on different sides until it starts to move. However do not swing it much.

You need to know that, it is not possible to use it again since it have already developed bends in the process of pushing it around. You will realize that, when you try to pull it back, it will not get back to its original position. Yes, it can slide comfortably to a new track, but it will not guarantee the strength required. This will in turn undermine the power of the engine. This may in turn read to interruptions.

It is a good idea to make sure you use screws during installation. This is normally done after you lay down your tracks. However, when the tracks get challenging, you can then choose to install the screws before.

Use two screws on each joiner. They should be on each side of the joint. Fix each about halfway on the ends. For one to get good alignment, tighten the joiners before laying them on the tracks. Doing this helps to distribute power connections. You can also use a conductive grease to prevent water destroying them.
