The Uses Of Emergency Survival Gears

By Lelia Hall

Life changes in the twinkle of an eye; it only takes an earth tremor to remind humanity how fragile life is and how unforgiving nature can be. With these factors in mind, humanity should always have a backup plan on and an emergency kit whereby a survival kit is a package of basic tools and supplies prepared in advance as an aid to survive in an emergency. Depending on the situation and the nature of the environment the emergency survival gears differ in both quantity and quality.

One of the general characteristics of a survival gear is that it must be easy to carry and very easy to use, this is because an emergency occurs and at times its only a matter of minutes before the situation is out of control thus the gears must be easily accessible in times of emergency and must also be easy to carry because the situation might require one to run with the gear at hand.

As part of the survival gear a knife is considered to be a very crucial tool in the trade this is because a knife serves as a multipurpose tool in these gears. The knife is considered to have several uses such as in cutting the fruits and meat hunted it can be used as a weapon too while it can also be used as a digging tool in case some digging is required too.

Fire is an object with so many uses that its necessity is vital for the existence of mankind since its used to light up the surrounding its used to cook. Its also a source of heat and in the wild its used to scare away dangerous animals. This makes the matchbox almost indispensable in the emergency gears this is because it will be used to light the fires in times of crisis.

In many cases when a crisis occurs foods tend to be scarce and very rare to come by. This makes the inclusion of the foods to be something that cannot be overlooked in the emergency gears. In most cases dried foods like the nuts and cereals are parts of the foods that are considered in this cargo this is because the dried foods will tend to last for longer and are light as compared to other foods.

Water is also another necessity in the survival kit this is because life without water is improbable. Human beings can survive without food for weeks while a human being without water cannot survive this is because our bodies are mainly composed of water and a major reduction of the water levels is fatal for all human beings.

In emergency situations the comfort of sleeping in that warm cozy bed is almost impossible this is because the house will either be in existent or so insecure that one would rather sleep on the run than in the house. But sleeping on the run mostly involves sleeping on the ground. This makes the tent or the sleeping bag a necessity in order to survive in this situation since its the only portable bed or home.

In emergency situations accidents happen and illnesses occur and if one is not well prepared then they have to go through a rough time patch which at times tends to be fatal. To try and reduce the number of fatalities that occur due to emergencies one of the essential gears in the kit should include painkillers, antibiotics and also disinfectants.
