The Zimbabwe Mission definitely needs more help. In a country located right below Zambia and right above Africa, the country is severely suffering. The economy has just about collapsed, and most citizens suffer in abject poverty. Food shortages are rampant.
One project in particular is working hard to help these poor people. The Zimbabwe Mission project works to aid about a thousand needy orphans . They have built and continue to operate the Heather Chimhoga Orphan Center. They strive to provide two nutritious meals each day to around a thousand orphans and preschoolers.
Many of these children suffer from the disease AIDS and other serious diseases. Thankfully, they now have a full time nurse who helps meet the many medical needs. With an increase in donations of medicines and medical help they are seeing a decrease in the childhood mortality rates. But still, they need more.
They are now facing even tighter restraints with both policy and economic issues. Once items are donated, it is becoming increasingly difficult to receive the goods. They are trying to compensate by growing more local foods using on-site gardens. They have also found a particular tree, the moringa, to be especially high in things like protein, vitamin C, vitamin A, and calcium.
They try to provide each child with the money for the required school fees that must be paid. They operate a co-op that produces the school uniforms that the children are required to wear. They also try to supply needed school supplies, and renovate buildings like the school and library. They help to drill new wells, so that the children can have fresh, clean water. They also help the local citizens in coming up with income producing projects.
Most places suffering with severe economic problems usually are short on funds. They are no exception. Even though they have partnerships with various churches to help with their need of food and supplies, they often encounter difficulties in receiving these goods. Nutritional foods like rice or beans are often very difficult to both buy and get shipped to them.
Many schools are trying to help their schools by giving old computers and school furniture. They often will also do clothing and food drives to try to help. Some work hard to gather personal hygiene items that are always in short supply. Even with this help, they could still use more donated items.
Even with the many generous gifts of various organizations for the Zimbabwe Mission, they still encounter massive problems. Once donated, they often have difficulty getting the items shipped to their location. A lot of the sea shipping crates cost about ten thousand dollars or more to ship. Often needed donated items sit for long periods of time in storage, because no one has the money to pay for the shipping. Funds are needed to get the donations to them. Many very loving caregivers give up their time to help these children. We who are more fortunate, should at least be willing to donate to this very worthy cause. They definitely need our help.
