The Visual Appeal Of Wrought Iron Planters

By Katrina Wheeler

There are plenty of ways to decorate the outside areas of a property. For those considering doing this, wrought iron planters are an option to consider. These attractive garden features come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit a few different needs.

Plant stands made of wrought iron can be fashioned in a variety of stylish and intricate designs. This can include scrolling, crests, spikes and other features. The attractive finish they create is one of the main reasons to use them. In most cases they look attractive as stand-alone items, but when planted with flowers will look even better.

Planting boxes come in sizes small enough for a single pot and large enough to hold a few. It is not strictly necessary to use pots though and sowing directly in to the planter is possible. In this case a liner will be needed to hold the soil in and there are a few options for this. This includes organic materials such as moss and coconut matting, as well as a few man-made fabrics.

Hanging baskets are a common garden feature and more often then not these are domed in shape. The material can be heavy though, therefore a basket made of it should be connected to a solid surface that is capable of holding the load. Chains and hooks are generally sold with the basket for the purpose of hanging it.

Planters that stand on the ground come in shapes from simple to complex. A simple style can be a square or rectangular box while more complex options can include garden accessories such as a wheelbarrow. Legs are an optional extra although will place the planter at a higher level for easier maintenance. Always situate the planter in the desired location before filling as the lighter weight will make it easier to move around.

Indoor planters can add to the look of a room and wrought iron can add a vintage touch. Typically these will be smaller than their outdoor counterparts and more suited to an individual plant. The style is attractive and is an interior design idea to consider.

The traditional color of the material is black and many of the planters on the market come in this shade. It is not the only option though and it is possible to find colors such as silver and brown available. It pays to check what the material actually is when purchasing. In many cases cast iron and steel can be made to have the look of wrought iron and then marketed under the name. It can appear just as attractive although those looking for the genuine article may want to be sure that is what they are buying.

Garden centers and plant nurseries are places to look for wrought iron planters for sale. These typically have a range of garden accessories and planters may be one of these. Online landscaping stores are another avenue to consider, with many having a variety of plant stands for sale. Other than that some of the big box stores and larger internet retailers may offer some planters for sale.
