Pheasant Hunting Lodges And Essential Tips On Hunting

By Cornelia White

Pheasant hunting has been in practice for the past very many years. Among the reasons why it is popular is the fact that is brings about some form of bonding and strengthens relationships that are already in existence. Though it may look relatively easy, it needs some level of knowledge and skill. The exercise first and foremost requires one to find the best habitats, which is where pheasant hunting lodges come in handy.

When one chooses the right lodge, getting the birds becomes much easier and making a good killing becomes very much possible. Once the right location has been gotten, the next step is to know how to effectively hunt down the pheasants. A number of useful tips come in handy in this. These birds tend to get their feed from natural food that makes up good cover. More often than not however, they will go for cover close to agricultural fields.

Consequently, they are more likely to be found in covers located close to food sources. This is especially so in the mornings and evenings when they are likely to be feeding. During such times, the crops act as dodging places whenever predators are spotted. Finding the best spots is very essential. This, coupled with hunting in areas with not so many hunters, will ensure success.

There are certain places that most hunters tend to disregard, among them heavy cover areas and those with groves. This comes very much in handy later during the season when there is increased pressure. At this time of the season, any birds that are still alive will be wary and thus nit easily spotted.

At around midday, the best places to hunt are ridgelines. At such time, roosters gather on hilltops and also on ridge lines to have a feel of the sun. There are chances that most hunters at such times will still be focusing on the cover.

The majority of these birds use crops for cover before they are picked. Hunters have the option of waiting until the crops are picked, or hunt the crops. As much as possible, one ought to ensure they are the first ones to hunt in fields that have been picked and adjacent areas. There is of course the option of asking for permission to do hunting in the particular crop before it is picked. The best time would however be once all the crops have been picked.

The use of dogs is very important and cannot be taken for granted. Unlike humans, they are able to smell the pheasants. If anything, it is worth remembering that roosters no longer take to the air like they used to. Instead, they run or hide. Not having dogs will make one walk past many birds without noticing.

When looking to do pheasant hunting lodges are very useful. Still, hunters have a lot to do. Wind direction is also an important factor to consider. Hunting should be done into the wind so that birds do not sense any approach towards them. It also ensures the dogs have an upper hand.
