Potential Reasons To Join The Military

By Marissa Velazquez

Military refers to an organization with the responsibility to defend a country, as well as its citizens. Multiple branches exist within the organization, each of these has its own specific duties and purpose. Generally, people who have or do serve are considered commendable for their time and sacrifice. As with anything, there are pros and cons to enlisting. There are also different reasons to join the military that are expected to vary by individual.

A common reason that people sign up for this is because of the educational benefits. For a lot of people, college is an option that they would like to pursue, but may not fit in their budget without taking out multiple loans and utilizing financial aid. The American military is known to provide those who serve with the opportunity to get educated through various programs. These help pay for all or a portion of the cost of college.

Money may also drive a person to register. Even the entry-level positions available can offer a fair salary. The organization might also comp living arrangements. As an individuals becomes more experience, he or she may go up in ranking and be given a better salary and additional benefits.

It is worth noting that this line of work may require a lot, including combat and strenuous labor. Those who are signed up may be protected when it comes to medical coverage. In the modern day, finding affordable health care plans can be difficult for families and individuals. The benefits that are given to these service members are worth noting and usually include no annual fees, deductibles or co-pays.

Overall, those who get involved do not usually consider it to be there be all, end all. Most people see it as a change to find reliable, steady work that is rewarding in many other aspects as well. It is also an opportunity to gain experience, discipline, direction and skills that can be applied in other situations. People who have served for a long period of time may retire in advance and start collecting pay and benefits.

People may decide to become involved simply for the experience. That is, real-world experience that they may not have had otherwise. Many people will get the opportunity to travel and may even be stationed in countries outside of their own. This opens them up to new cultures and things. The work that they do while in the service might also be applied to jobs that they can take on when they are living like normal civilians.

Not everyone needs all of these reasons to join. In fact, there are some who do it merely to keep in line with family tradition. In other cases, this is done primarily to give back. Others do so for camaraderie. In fact, a lot of people meet best friends and spouses during their time. There are even people who do it for no reason at all other than to try something new and learn more about themselves.

There are many reasons to join the military, most are subjective. Some do it for a career, others for an education. It may be about having stable benefits and money for some service people, and more about the people, memories, gained skills and experience to others. No matter the reasoning, it should be the final choice of the person who would be enlisting.
