Helicopter Search And Rescue Training Tools

By April Briggs

It can take years before a disaster strikes but that does not mean that measures to deal with them when they happen should not be put in place. Many countries have highly invested in disaster management. They ensure that the necessary equipment needed in search time are availed and are in good working condition. Civilians are also taught on how to make use of them. There are specific ones that are used in helicopter search and rescue training.

There is a certain type of which that is attached to a rescue helicopter to help in air lifting purposes as well as dropping its occupants. It is mostly used in areas that are not favorable for landing or the activity has to be hurriedly undertaken. In training, they are used to practically instill the required skills to use them.

There are special kinds of torches used in the training as well as the rescue mission. These are used to search on lost items or people suspected to be in a given area. They are referred to as nitesun due to the amount of light they provide at night. The training will include how to use them, focus them on a specified area and also alter with the brightness.

While on the ground at night, night vision glasses are used especially in regions that are dimly lit. They are special in that they give very clear vision making it easy to perform the task at hand. The glasses are also used to identify lively things such as animals or human beings through the look on some of their part. This is a skill that has to be instilled during training.

For easy movements and operations during missions, specific types of clothing must be put on. This includes the survival jacket. It finds its name due to the fact that it helps in survival at extreme areas. It is equipped with an extra torch and a whistle among other items. It may be uncomfortable to those who are not used to wearing it and they have to be made familiar with its use.

While on the helicopter, among the safety items put on is the flight helmet. It is a protective gear in that it protects the head in case of a crash. It also consists of some additional items such as night vision glasses and a microphone to facilitate communication with other members of the team.

At no time should a rescue team go on a mission blindly. There must be a specific region that they have to concentrate on in any given time. Direction finder gadgets are important in such time. Some are attached to the helicopter while others are portable. The gadgets are availed in training for demonstration and learning on how to put them in use.

Search and rescue teams are likely to encounter victims who are in need of medical attention. They are therefore equipped with medical tools to aid in carrying out first aid. The helicopters are also made in a way that they can accommodate such victims. Trainees have to be taught on how to make use of such equipment.
