The secret of change is to focus everything on creating what you can in the present, and letting yourself slip out of the past and the future.
How do we actually change?
I am not talking about the kind of change that lasts for just a few months and then we return to the same things we really always used to do. No, I am talking about that everlasting change that allows us to move forward with our lives and leave our old techniques behind. This is true change, change that will last forever. The secret is to commit everything you have in your life to building what you can in the present time.
The past will hold you down and the future will show you the greatest lie and mirage of a place where it all turns out. Both these imaginary places are incredibly threatening because they keep us from being in action in the moment. Even though we can go there in our heads, we have to avoid living in these places at all costs.
Change isn't going to be easy. Think about just how many of us try and make huge changes the on the first of the year. In fact, about half of people who make New Years Resolutions fail by mid February. That disconnect is huge. So there must really be something incredibly broken with that system.
So what can we do?
Focus upon one thing, every day, to make yourself a smidge better compared to the day before and do that for as long as you really can. Don't get obsessed over the quantum leap where everything changes all at once - it's a lie. Heavily focus on the daily tasks you can perform and over a period of time you will change more than you could really ever imagine.
Start the voyage of change now, one step at a time.
Don't wait.
