The Shady Truth About Tulips

By Jeffrey Myers

Man believes itself to have dominion over the natural world. This belief has driven man both to serve as the stewards of nature and the destroyers of it. As the destroyers, man has destroyed forests of trees. As the stewards, man has cultivated and raised many other types of plants. One such example of these plants are Siam tulips.

A Siam tulip is a flower. Generally speaking, the stem is quite long. The bulb, the thing that most people think of as the main part of the flower, comes in differing shades of pink and red. On some occasions, the bulb can even present as brown. It should be noted that it is not in fact a tulip and is in fact a type of ginger.

Humanity has had some cultural connection to flowers. Some myths depict humans as either coming from the bud of a flower. Other myths in other parts of the planet depict the flower as being a necessary ingredient in some spell or potion or being otherwise special in some other way. It is clear that plants play a clear and present role in human culture, though that role may vary depending on the specific cultural mythology involved.

There are a number of reasons flowers are grown by humans. For some, horticulture is a hobby, something to pass the time by and to keep busy. To some other people, horticulture is a profession, a means to make ends meet. The profession can be as simple as growing plants for a store to sell, actually selling the plants, or full on landscape architecture, shaping the grounds of estates or houses. Of course, flowers do have human uses.

Flora can have a variety of symbolic uses for people. When someone achieves something, wins an award or gets a promotion, a bouquet is a traditional congratulatory present. In fact, florists make bouquets specifically for such occasions.

Now, in terms of romance, flowers are not just appropriate in regards to courtship. A person can get their partner flowers just because, for no reason at all. Of course, when a person messes up, flowers are a traditional accompaniment to a heartfelt apology.

But people do not just use plants for apologies and celebrations. People also use plant life to decorate the home. The right flora can make a home more beautiful, it can make a home feel like a home. It can also make a space more comfortable, as foliage can help regulate temperature in a home and make it easier to breathe, as vegetation produces oxygen, a vital component in the air that people breathe.

Flowers also smell good. A perfumer uses floral scents when concocting scents. People like to be in areas that smell good.

Nature covers the whole of the planet, and man is the dominant species of the world. Humankind may believe itself to the masters of the natural world. To some extent, that is true. Man can exert some control over the flora of the world. But to an even greater extent, humanity is in fact subservient to the natural world, entirely dependent on it for almost everything.
