Now, this might get a bit philosophical. For a few people summer camp is just about sending their children off to long term babysitters but it is very rare. If one cares about his or her child enough to spend for summer camp then that parent probably wants kid enriched through this experience. For the greater number of adults, however, the main goal of sending their youngsters is for their kid to associate with other children, and experience playing outside. Science campings teach children about events they would participate in later years, creating small contraptions like mousetrap car among other things. Meanwhile, religious campings usually ran by churches share similarities with YMCA campings. However, they conduct bible studies inside chapel as their primary activity. These are also commonly held for weeks.

However, camping is not so popular nowadays. Not every child goes most camping themed or parts an organization. There also camping basically just local during day activities just have their wild naughty children dropped in morning picked up in afternoon. Point is many parents working all year do not necessarily have time stay home, watch kid during 3 months when school is over, so can send them to be someone elses problem.
