Buy Sod For A Really Green Lawn

By Michelle Howe

Every year when Spring arrives people start the annual battle against their front and back yards. Everybody wants a green lawn if they can help it and many people are willing to go to any lengths to achieve it. Although people often spend lots of money on various seeds and fertilizers the best way to a green lawn is to just buy sod.

Although it might cost a decent amount, people do not realize that the seed route can often cost much more and be a bigger hassle as well. Once they finally get into everything they must do to grow a yard from seed they quickly realize what is happening and what kind of mistake they have made. It is then they decide to go with sod.

Planting seed requires a lot of patience. You also need a lot of money. You will need a spreader first because they recommend to not plant it by hand. It is said that the spreader will give you a more even lawn. Whatever that means. Then you will need fertilizer and possibly a cover to prevent the seed from moving.

The baby birds will not be the only things eating them either, so maybe a cover will be a good idea. They will also prevent them from washing away in a big rainstorm or when you try to water them with a hose or sprinkler. The rushing water can easily wash them away and into the gutter. Not exactly where you want your yard to grow.

Birds are probably the biggest nuisance. The baby birds will be hatching around the same time you plant your seed and they will all be very hungry. A cover can keep your seed in place, but it can be pricey. If you want you can have it sprayed on the dirt and this will usually get the grass to grow without all the trouble but it can be expensive.

If the water does not wash away all of your seeds then the birds might take it all away for you. Birds are hungry little creatures and in the spring, the same time you plant, is the same time all the babies are hatched from their eggs. They all come out very hungry and when momma is done feeding them they will find your seeds.

When they do you might have to consider protecting them with some sort of netting. That is yet another expense that you did not think of. After a couple weeks goes by if you do not start to see some sprouts you might be right to worry. It should not or it is not supposed to take long anyway for it to grow. If it does then you might have to replant.

When you buy sod you will be much happier and have more free time to use your spring and summer with. You will not have all the worries that you do with grass seed and you will probably save some money too. This is the case even though you would have thought that it would have cost more than seed. Funny how things work out sometimes.
